Follow the instructions
Recently I replaced our front screen door. This was the first time I've replaced a screen door, and it was a little complicated. Without the instructions I would not have known what to do. The instructions told me what to do step by step so that I could properly put together each piece. Because I willingly followed the instructions we now have a new screen door that looks great and works correctly. I've known people who don't like to read or follow instructions. They think that they can figure out on their own how to do things without someone else's advice. Usually stubbornness of this kind ends in poor results. The same is true in our spiritual lives. God has given us an instruction manual. He has given us step by step directions for life. These directions are found in God's Word the Bible. If we follow his instructions, our life will turn out right. If we don't take the time to read his instructions, then our lives can end in failure. The Bible gives us instructions on almost every aspect of life. We can find advice for our love life, for our career, for taking care of our finances, for our physical health, for achieving success in almost any endeavor. The Bible gives advice on how to avoid mistakes, how to develop personal relationships, how to find peace and joy. The Bible gives instructions on how to overcome anger, temptation, worry, disappointment, guilt feelings, selfishness, and loneliness. The Bible tells us how to be good citizens, how to work hard and provide for our families, how to raise our children, how to love our spouse, and how to take care of our parents. The Bible gives good, practical advice and instructions on almost every aspect of life on earth. But the most important advice it gives is how to live according to God's will in heaven. The Bible says that we are to pray for God's kingdom to come and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In other words, we are to ask God to extend his rule in our life and to the lives of others and that we might joyfully submit to his rule over our daily life, just as the angels joyfully submit to his rule in heaven. This is good advice. If we follow God's instructions, then we have a guarantee of having a successful life. The Bible says that "The LORD was with Joseph, so he became a successful man (Genesis 39:2)." We too can have success, if we follow God's instruction book. The Bible says,Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success (Joshua 1:7-8).1May God help you to follow his instructions, Pastor Steve July 13, 2007
